At Kappa Chapter we are appreciative of what we have and we enjoy helping give back to those who are less fortunate or supporting a good cause. To that end, we host or participate in a number of philanthropy projects each year.
AKΛ's These Hands Don't Hurt
Alpha Kappa Lambda realizes that sexual assault is a
serious problem on college campuses and believes that it can be
fought through education, service, and philanthropic projects. The
philanthropic fundraising aspect is the most visible of the three.
The fundraising is performed via a "Promise Wall." The Promise Wall
is displayed prominently in a high traffic area of campus.
Students, faculty, and members of the community are asked to add
their "hand" to the Promise Wall for a contribution of $1. By
placing their "hand" on the wall they make a promise that their
hand will not be used to harm others.
Zeta Tau Alpha (ZTA) Sorority's Big Man on Campus
(BMOC)
The ZTAs hold the only all-male beauty pageant at Purdue
University: Big Man On Campus. Every year Elliot Hall of Music is
home to this spectacular event, which brings Greeks together for
one night. Each fraternity on campus selects a candidate to
represent his house on stage at the end of a week long events that
are part of the Big Man on Campus. A great time is had by all as
ZTAs raise thousands of dollars for breast cancer awareness.
Theta-Beta Grill Off
This event is sponsored by the Kappa Alpha Theta
sorority chapter at Purdue and helps CASA by raising money
through hosting the annual Theta-Beta Grill Off. Every
year, Thetas clear out our parking lot and fraternities and
sororities team up to see who can cook the best meal. Teams compete
to be voted for having the best meal and the best theme.
Alpha Phi (AΦ) sorority's Ivy Man
Contest
This year 19 fraternities selected one member to be their Ivy Man
but only one can win it all. The winner of the Ivy Man competition
earns a spot on our composite right in the center of all the lovely
ladies of AΦ! Ivy Man's main purpose is to raise money and
awareness about women's cardiac care. Heart disease is the number
one killer of women; worldwide 8.6 million women die from heart
disease each year.
Delta Gamma (ΔΓ) sorority's Anchor Splash
The annual Anchor Splash hosted by ΔΓ is one of the
largest philanthropic events of the year for the Greek Community
with 25 participating chapters and hundreds of crazy fans! The
Boilermaker Aquatic Center was jam packed as swimmers took to the
pool in a number of events. This year's events included five relays
(Freestyle, Medley, Watermelon, Wet T-Shirt, and Inner Tube relays)
and the famous synchronized swimming competition. The Watermelon
competition features swimmers pushing a watermelon down the length
of the pool; the Inner Tube relay brings out all kinds of
strategies as teams race to the finish; and the Wet T-Shirt
competition weighs swimmers down as the fight through the water
wearing big wet t-shirts. These events get wild and crazy but the
Greek Community shows up by the hundreds ready for a day filled
with fun times in the pool. The events bring out good fun
competition, crazy fans, but most importantly raise money for
"Service for Sight".
Alpha Gamma Delta (AΓΔ) sorority's Alpha Gam
Cup
ΑΓΔ prides itself on the philanthropic efforts of collegiate
chapters in raising funds for the national philanthropy.
Nationally, ΑΓΔ has donated thousands of dollars to both
individuals and organizations to benefit research and treatment of
diabetes. Every chapter has a unique philanthropic event to
raise funds. at Purdue, ΑΓΔ hosts the Alpha Gam Cup, a soccer
tournament for fraternities and men's cooperative houses.
Every year talented Kappa Chapter AKΛ's participate in many
philanthropies on campus.
